Parking at Academic Building One in Alexandria, Virginia

Virginia Tech faculty, staff, and students can now purchase a pro-rated annual parking permit for the Academic Building One in Alexandria, Virginia. This 2024-2025 permit is valid from January 1 to August 31, 2025, and costs $1,120, equivalent to $140 per month.

Parking operations at Academic Building One are active 24/7. A valid parking permit or payment is required at all times for both the parking garage and surface lots.

Permits are available on the Virginia Tech Parking Services Parking Portal with the following payment options:

  • Payroll Deductions: Faculty and staff are eligible for pre-tax payroll deductions.
  • Bursar Account: Students may charge the cost to their Bursar account.
  • Credit Card: All buyers may select a one-time charge for the full amount at the time of purchase.

Short-Term Parking Options

  • Monthly Permits: For those preferring to purchase parking month-to-month, a monthly permit is available for $200 per month via credit card through the Virginia Tech Parking Services Portal.
  • Daily and Hourly Permits: Daily and hourly permits are available at the parking location. The hourly rate is $4 per hour for up to 3 hours or $20 per day.

Parking Garage and Surface Lots

  • Parking Garage: Requires a valid permit or daily/hourly payment.
  • Surface Lots: Require a permit or payment using ParkMobile.

Important Note: Parking permits for the Blacksburg Campus and the Alexandria Campus are not interchangeable. Permits purchased for one campus cannot be used at the other.

Cycling to Campus

Riding a bicycle is an eco-friendly and efficient way to commute to campus. The campus offers bike racks both inside and outside the parking garage for your convenience. Please note that e-bikes and scooters equipped with batteries are required to park outside.

Commonwealth Commuter Choice

Metrobus 7-Day Regional Bus Pass

If you take six or more trips per week on local bus lines, the Metrobus 7-Day Regional Bus Pass is an excellent way to maximize your travel. This pass offers unlimited rides for seven consecutive days on multiple transit options, making it a great supplement to your U-Pass or an affordable alternative during summer months and academic breaks. University U-Pass Program

Virginia Tech has entered into an agreement with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) that allows eligible students to participate in the University Pass (U-Pass) Program. U-Pass provides full-time Virginia Tech students unlimited access to Metrorail and Metrobus throughout the semester for about $1 per day. The mandatory fee is included as part of the comprehensive fees package for students.
