Student Parking

To meet parking and transportation needs of the university’s 33,000 students, Transportation Services provides a variety of parking permits, sustainable transportation options, and resources.

Commuter and Graduate Student Parking

Commuter and graduate students are allowed to park in the Commuter sections of the following lots:

  • Litton-Reaves
  • Duck Pond Drive
  • Track/Field House
  • Smithfield Road
  • Coliseum
  • Any resident space on campus

Parking is prohibited in areas restricted by signs, such as service vehicle areas, visitor spaces, metered spaces, or any lot or spaces signed for 24-hour or other reserved areas.

Students with a Graduate or Commuter Perry Street permit can park in the C/G Perry Street sections and in any other valid C/G/R spaces on campus that are not restricted by signs.

Additionally, commuter and graduate students may purchase a Remote student permit at a lower rate. This permit allows parking only in the off-campus student remote lot located at Smoot and Innovation Drive (1602 Innovation Drive). From there, students can walk or take a shuttle to campus.

Graduate-only parking spaces are available in the Squires Lot, Litton-Reeves Extension lot, and around the GLC Circle.

Oak Lane Community

Residents of the Oak Lane Community must purchase a resident parking permit to park within the community. Please refer to the Resident Student Parking section for more details.

Resident Student Parking

Resident students are permitted to park in the Resident sections of the following lots:

  • Stadium Lot
  • Chicken Hill Lot
  • Duck Pond Drive Lot

Please note that the Stadium Lot, Chicken Hill Lot, and the perimeter of the Duck Pond Drive Lot will be restricted during home athletic events.

ParkMobile

ParkMobile can be used in any parking meter, campus parking space, or lot with standard F/S, C/G, or R parking. It cannot be used in 24-hour restricted lots or spaces designated for specific groups, such as Service Vehicles.

Faculty, staff, commuters, graduates, and resident students must park in their designated areas while using ParkMobile. Students are not allowed to use ParkMobile to park in F/S spaces or lots.

Evening Only Permit

The Evening Only (EO) permit is ideal if you need to be on campus in the evenings. This permit allows you to park in any regular F/S (excluding FS 24 HR) or student space after 5 p.m. If you already have an F/S, resident, commuter, or graduate permit, you do not need an EO permit to park at night or after 5 p.m.

Dining Hall Enforcement

Parking regulations near the Dining Halls will be strictly enforced due to congestion.

Bike, Bus, and Walk Permit: Promote Sustainability

The Bike, Bus, and Walk permit encourages the use of sustainable transportation modes as the primary means of commuting to campus. This includes riding Blacksburg Transit or the Smart Way bus, bicycling, and/or walking. By choosing these eco-friendly options, you contribute to reducing the campus’s carbon footprint and promote a healthier environment.

Bike, Bus, and Walk participants will receive:

  • 16 discounted daily parking permits per semester, or 32 discounted daily parking permits per year.
  • Access to the Guaranteed Ride Home Program, which provides a free ride home in the event of an emergency. The Guaranteed Ride Home Program is available to registered RIDE Solutions users. Registration is free, but must be processed in advance of a request.

To register for a Bike, Bus, and Walk permit, complete the Commuter Alternatives Program form.

Permits

A parking permit does not guarantee a parking space but allows for legal parking in specific campus areas.

Permits are required from 7 a.m. – 10 p.m., except where otherwise noted by signs. This applies whenever the university is open, including when classes are not in session and during semester breaks. Permits are not required after 10 p.m., except in the following areas:

  • Any lot or space(s) signed for 24-hour parking
  • University Bookstore Lot (meters), which must be paid continuously, 24 hours a day, seven days a week

Parking permits can be purchased online or in person at Parking Services. Faculty, staff, and students must present their Hokie Passport and vehicle registration.
