Blacksburg to Washington DC Travel Options

Travel options from Blacksburg to National Capital Region:

Virginia Breeze Bus Lines is an intercity bus service. Their Valley Flyer route connects Blacksburg with Union Station in Washington, D.C. The daily route includes several stops in the New River Valley, Shenandoah Valley and Northern Virginia.

Virginia Breeze bus departs from Squires Student Center daily at 8 a.m. The bus arrives in Arlington at 2:05 p.m. at the West Falls Church station, and Union Station in Washington DC at 2:30 p.m.

Cost: $49.99 one way

To purchase a ticket through Amtrak's website, enter Blacksburg as the origin station. Your rail ticket will include a Smart Way bus ticket to the Roanoke train station, allowing for an easy transfer from Blacksburg.

The Smart Way bus will depart from Virginia Tech at 5 a.m. and will arrive at the Roanoke Amtrak station at 5:50 a.m. The Amtrak train will depart from Roanoke at 6:20 a.m. and will arrive in Union Station at 11:20 a.m.

Virginia students between the ages of 13 and 25, with a valid student ID, can get a student discount of 25% off any travel in Virginia and Washington, D.C.

Travel options from National Capital Region to Blacksburg:

Virginia Breeze Bus Lines is an intercity bus service. Their Valley Flyer route connects Blacksburg with Union Station in Washington, D.C.

Virginia Breeze bus departs from Union Station in Washington DC daily at 9:20 a.m. and leaves West Falls Church station in Arlington at 10:00 a.m. The bus arrives in Blacksburg at 3:30 p.m. at the Squires Student Center. 

Cost: $49.99 one way

To purchase a ticket through Amtrak's website, enter Washington DC as the origin and Blacksburg as the destination station. Your rail ticket will include a Smart Way bus ticket from the Roanoke train station, allowing for an easy transfer to Blacksburg.

The Amtrak train will depart Washington DC from Union Station at 4:50 p.m. and will arrive in Roanoke at 9:55 p.m. A Smart Way bus will depart from Roanoke at 10:15 p.m. and arrive in Blacksburg at 11:25 p.m.

Once you return to Blacksburg, Fleet Services vehicles may be returned to the Fleet Services lot 24 hours-a-day, and should always be returned to their designated parking spot. 

When returning a vehicle:

  • Refuel it at the Fleet Services pumps located on the side of the building.
  • Retrieve the receipt and place in key wallet.
  • Return vehicle to the designated space.
  • Record date and time of return, and odometer reading on trip information card record along with any comments and place in key wallet.
  • Return the keys to the front office during operating hours. If it is after 5 p.m. or on the weekend, drop the keys into the night drop slot in the door across from the fuel pumps.
  • Make sure all windows and doors are closed and the lights are off.
  • Check vehicle for any personal items. Fleet Services is not responsible for personal items left in the vehicle. Personal items not claimed after 10 days will be considered abandoned and sent to Surplus Property for disposal.
  • The operator must return the vehicle to Fleet Services as scheduled. If for any reason the vehicle cannot be returned as scheduled, contact Fleet Services.
