Airport Shuttle

Roanoke Airport Transportation Service, Inc. provides an airport shuttle service between Blacksburg and the Blacksburg-Roanoke Regional Airport.

Vans leave from the Squires Student Center, the Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center, and University Holiday Inn.

Reservations are required and can be made by calling 1-800-288-1958.

Blacksburg-Roanoke Smart Way Shuttle

The Smart Way shuttle provides service between the Roanoke Valley and the Virginia Tech campus for $4 each way.

Smart Way monthly passes are available to Virginia Tech students and employees at a discount of 25 percent off the normal price.

For those returning on a Sunday to the Roanoke Regional Airport, a special transfer is available which allows passengers to travel back on the Roanoke/Blacksburg Airport Shuttle for $4 (regularly priced at $30). Passengers must get a transfer ticket from the Smart Way driver when travelling to the airport.

Radford Transit

Radford Transit offers weekend connections to Radford through Christiansburg and provides links with the full Radford Transit system.

Smart Way Connector: Amtrak Service

Smart Way Connector provides a transit service to connect the New River Valley to the Lynchburg Amtrak station.

LOCAL & REGIONAL TRANSIT

The Smart Way Bus provides service between the Roanoke Valley and the New River Valley, including the Virginia Tech campus. Service is free with a Virginia Tech ID and $4 each way for the public. Service is provided Monday-Saturday.

Valley Metro operates Smart Way Express, which connects Virginia Tech's Blacksburg campus with the Roanoke campus where the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute are located. Service is provided Monday-Friday.

The service is available on a first-come, first-served basis (at no cost) to anyone with a valid ID from Virginia Tech, Carilion Clinic, Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, Fralin Biomedical Research Institute, or Radford University Carilion. The general public is required to pay a $4 fare.

Blacksburg Transit (BT) provides public transportation to the citizens of Blacksburg, Virginia Tech faculty, staff, and students, and partnering communities within the New River Valley Region.

BT fares for students, faculty and staff are prepaid.

Radford Transit's Route 40 connects to Radford through Christiansburg, providing links with the full Radford Transit system, Monday-Saturday. Route 40 stops in front of the Squires Student Center on Alumni Mall.

The Smart Way bus connects the Roanoke Valley and the New River Valley. Service is free with a Virginia Tech ID and $4 each way for the public. The Smart Way bus departs Virginia Tech from the Squires Student Center and stops at the ROA airport. Service is provided Monday-Saturday.

STATEWIDE TRANSIT

Virginia Breeze Bus Lines is an intercity bus service with four seperate routes across the state of Virginia. The Valley Flyer route connects Blacksburg with Union Station in Washington, D.C. Their newest route, Highlands Rhythm, connects Bristol with Washington, D.C. (This route does not stop in Blacksburg, but it does stop in Christiansburg). Both of these daily routes include several stops in the New River Valley, Shenandoah Valley and Northern Virginia.

OurBus is an intercity bus service connecting Blacksburg to Washington, D.C. Buses depart Thursday-Monday from Lane Stadium, with stops in Harrisonburg and Tysons.

Additional stops across the state are added during Thanksgiving Break, Winter Break and Spring Break.

Amtrak provides service to destinations further northeast as part of its Northeast Regional route. To purchase a ticket through Amtrak's website, enter Blacksburg as the origin/destination station. Your rail ticket will include a Smart Way bus ticket to/from the Roanoke train station to/from the Blacksburg stop on Alumni Mall at the Squires Student Center.

Student Discount

Students between the ages of 17 and 24, with a valid student ID, are eligible for a 15% discount on Amtrak routes nationwide. Tickets must be booked at least one day in advance.

The discount will automatically be applied when qualifying travel is selected using the link above, or use the Amtrak app and enter code V814 when booking your trip.

The Virginia Breeze bus connects Blacksburg and Dulles. The bus departs from the Squires Student Center at 8:00 a.m. and arrives at Dulles at 1:30 p.m.

OUT-OF-STATE TRANSIT

CollegeTransit is a university-coordinated service that provides students with holiday and break bus service from Blacksburg to metro areas in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York.

CollegeTransit is not affiliated with Virginia Tech, nor does Virginia Tech endorse its services.

To purchase a ticket through Amtrak's website, enter Blacksburg as the origin/destination station. Your rail ticket will include a Smart Way bus ticket to/from the Roanoke train station to/from the Smart Way bus stop on Alumni Mall at the Squires Student Center.
